Specifications
CGL Systems are working with RIBA Enterprises to write an NBS Plus specification to cover all the components of the CGL Rainpulse Rainwater Management System. A specification has been prepared and is currently being reviewed by NBS Plus. The content of this specification is below and is suitable for use until the final version is concluded at which time the below specification will be replaced.
The specification includes relevant aspects of R10 including design, gutter, outlets, pipework and installation. To download a copy please click here.
If you require an H31 234 specification for your gutter click to download for either the insulated or single skin version.
If you require alternative gutter types or assistance in writing a specification for your project please contact us where we will be delighted to assist.

- CGL Rainpulse Outlets - Outlets are high velocity outlets to ensure efficiently extracting the water from the gutter and into the pipe work system. The CGL Rainpulse Rainwater Management System incorporates an appropriate gutter, outlets and pipes to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of all components. Must be used in conjunction with the CGL Rainpulse Gutter as detailed in R10 320 or H31 234 (available from CGL Systems) and the CGL Rainpulse HDPE or Aluminium downpipe system (see R10 295 J) with associated pipe clip sets.
- Outlet Components:
Spigots are manufactured in Aluminium grade BS1050 in 2/3mm.
Anti-vortex plate and clamp rings are manufactured from die cast aluminium LM6 BS1490-1998.

- Roof construction: Rainpulse outlets fitted into CGL Membrane Lined Gutter system as detailed in R10 320.
- Size: Determined by CGL Systems as part of the specific building design calculation performed by CGL Systems and denoted on working drawings. (Consult with CGL Systems).
390 J Rainpulse System
- Design, Fabrication and Supply of a high efficiency rainwater management system for discharging rainwater from the roof to ground drainage. The system consists of a membrane lined gutter, outlets (site fitted) and either HDPE or Aluminium down pipes. The components form part of the overall system. The ability of the system to discharge rainwater from the roof to ground drainage is calculated through CGL Systems software on a project to project basis.

CGL Systems Ltd 2 Young Place Kelvin Industrial Estate East Kilbride G75 0TD.
Tel: 01355 235561
Fax: 01355 247189
E-mail: rainpulse@cglsystems.co.uk
- System Components:
CGL Rainpulse Membrane Lined Gutter (R10 320 or H31 234).
CGL Rainpulse Outlet (R10 370)
CGL Rainpulse HDPE down pipes or CGL Rainpulse Aluminium Downpipes (R10 295).
- The system must be designed within the following parameters to operate to discharge to underground drainage economically, be regularly self-cleansing and maintenance free in normal use with an annual inspection and clean if necessary.
- The roof drainage subcontractor will liaise with CGL Systems to determine optimum positions of the Rainpulse outlets and pipework.
- The system shall protect the buildings from the ingress of rainwater at all times both internal and external.
- Pipe work must remain airtight at maximum and minimum operating pressures. Pipe work must accommodate structural and thermal movement using flexible joints or other suitable means without damage to fixings and joints or excess stress, abrasion or noise.
- Design rate of rainfall: As EN 12056-3:2000
Geographical Location: (specific to project please complete)
Storm Duration: 2 minutes.
Building life: (specific to project please complete)
Category of risk (specific to project please complete) to BS EN 12056-3:2000
Maximum operational pressure: -0.80 bar gauge m vacuum.
- Roof outlets: number, location and size to be determined by CGL systems. Rainwater outlets to be supplied to the roofing contractor for installation prior to pipe work.
392 J Design Responsibility
- CGL Systems in conjunction with the relevant project subcontractors take full responsibility for the design, fabrication, supply and installation of the complete above ground rainwater collection system incorporating the gutter, outlets and pipe systems. Provide drawings and calculations for submission to demonstrate Building Regulation compliance together with any other relevant legislation.
- Roof outlets - Produce and issue calculations / design drawings to the CA to demonstrate compliance with the specification and allow integration and co-ordination of the system into the building. Discuss and modify the design to incorporate comment made during the drawing inspection process.
394 J Particular Design Considerations
- In addition, take into account the following considerations:
- Allow for all fixing clip sets for installation of the complete system.
- Advise the CA and the drainage infrastructure consultant of the relevant LPS (litres per second) discharge of each downpipe location and agree the adequacy and capacity of the drainage infrastructure to ensure full operation of the CGL Rainpulse above ground drainage.
400 Installation
- Before Commencing Work specified in this section, ensure that below ground drainage is ready to receive rainwater or that the discharge can be dispersed by approved means to prevent damage or disfigurement of the building fabric.
410 J Installation Generally
- Install pipe work / gutters to ensure the complete discharge of rainwater from the building in accordance with design requirements without leaking.
- Obtain all components for the Rainpulse rainwater management system from CGL Systems.
- Avoid contact between dissimilar metals and other materials which would result in electrolytic corrosion.
- Do not bend plastic pipes.
- Adequately protect pipe work from damage and distortion during construction.
550 J Testing Guidance Generally
- Inform CA sufficiently in advance to give a reasonable opportunity to observe tests.
- Check that all sections of the installation are free from obstructions and debris before testing.
- Carry out tests as specified, after testing, locate and remedy all defects without delay and retest as instructed.
- Keep a record of all tests including completion certificate and provide a copy of each direct to the CA.
